Remember in your youth, when an adult would tell you to sit up straight in your chair or to keep it on all fours? Did you ever think that maybe we want to sit in the leaned back position for a reason? According to a recent study sitting up straight is actually not the best position for your back. In fact, the best position in which to sit is at a 135-degree angle. Rather than a 90-degree angle, as most might think would be the best angle.

Additionally, experts say sitting upright is known to contribute to lower back pain. Data from the British Chiropractic Association says 32% of the population spends more than 10 hours a day seated. Half do not leave their desks, even to have lunch. Two thirds of people also sit down at home when they get home from work.

Not to mention how much time is spent sitting in cars, on planes, in boats, and in trains. More and more everyday it seems we sit and are inactive. Stand up! Stretch out a little bit. Lean back in that chair and don’t be such a stiff. After all, it’s good for you. (except when you let go of the table and end up with a fork centimeters from your eyeball. But that’s for another article.)
