My love for animals goes beyond feeling fondness for them. About two years ago I devoted the rest of my life to being a vegetarian. Animal rights are just one of my passions and I care for all species deeply. I have owned several different types of pets and currently have a dog, cat and hamster. I state these facts just to show how much I love animals.

I will be upset when one of my pets dies. I will not be upset enough to commit suicide over one of them.

I can relate to mourning the death of a furry companion. After all most domesticated animals live for a decent amount of time. You share an eclectic mix of memories with them. It could be a walk around the neighborhood, cuddling on a couch, brushing their hair off your dark clothing, looking into those sweet little eyes and days on the beach. A dog is a man’s best friend.

A couple from India were so grief stricken about their dog, appropriately named, “Puppy” they hung themselves. The sixty-ish couple committed suicide after the burial and celebration of life meal. Their beloved mammal was 13 years of age. C.N. Madanraj and Tarabi did not have any children of their own.

I’ve seen pet owners cremate their cohort. Some go as far as being buried with their ashes. I’ve heard of pet cemeteries. My family has held ceremonies for my past pets in our backyard. But I’ve never encountered anyone committing suicide over a pet.

Don’t get me wrong contemplating and committing suicide is not to be taken lightly. In 2004 32,439 deaths were due to suicide making it 88 per day.

Grief should be apart of mourning, it is human nature to become sad due to loss of a pet. Yet, committing suicide over one is a bit extreme.
