New York City and former drug dealing rapper 50 Cent has put a new twist on pre-sale album hype. He is being quoted as saying,

If Kanye West sells more records than 50 Cent on September 11, I’ll no longer write music.

The BBC News article goes on to say that 50 was recently in the studio with West, however the two have had a riff between them for many years now.

To be honest, I could really care less. Most hip-hop put out these days by major artists is so over-produced and has so many guest appearances on it, the artist themselves is barely on it. Furthermore, the digital post production has made it so none of these rappers can do a live show and sound anywhere near what the album sounds like. If we were talking about rock, punk or metal bands, they would be called studio artists and be shunned by most for not being able to play live.

Ironically, while searching to see if the CDs of these two artists were available for pre-sale orders yet, this option showed up in an Amazon search for 50’s album:

Better together, buy 50 Cent & Kayne West's new albums

It seems that buyers are picking up both of them and the marketing scheme is working.
