A National Geographic documentary due out later this month explores brain transplant technologies past and present. Dr. Vladimir Demikhov is said to have conducted early transplant experiments in secret soviet labratories in the 1950′s.� Apparently he was able to create both a 2 headed dog and a 2 headed monkey. Dr. Robert White in the mid 60′s transplanted a brain onto a neck and kept both alive for days.

Considering recent medical advances such as stem cell regeneration practices and full face transplantation I don’t think brain tranplant sounds that far fetched anymore. Personally I’hope to get some questions answered if these brain transplants are successful.� First, “Does our soul reside in our brains or bodies?” and, “What does it mean to be human if there is no soul?”� Say you have one of these transplants, do you put your brain in a new body or does your body get a new brain� Seems like an important part of the equation for the patient.
