A month ago today, 50 Cent announced that he would quite the game if rival Kanye West sold more albums on September 11th, the release for both artists. Now it sounds more threatening then it really is, 50 said something to the effect that he wouldn’t create any new original music if he was out-sold, he would only do guest spots on other artists tracks. Even so, Billboard is reporting Kanye is well ahead in the sales war. A quick look at Amazon.com’s best seller list (updated hourly) shows West in the top slot and 50 in third, behind Bruce Springsteen of all artists.

Jay-Z has said that the face-off is A Fantastic thing for Hip-Hop, going on to say that release date sales wars usually result in a benefit for everyone involved. He should know first hand, after his much publicized feud with Nas.

In a strange twist, 50 is being quoted as saying, I kicked Kanye off the show, speaking of the recent VMA awards and Kanye’s boycott of the entire MTV network.

All I know is that I’ve heard most of each artists albums, both are good, neither are amazing. The bigger picture to this is that the media is eating up. Millions of blogs, including this one, are writing about what is and is not going on. Time will tell if 50 Cent is a man of his word and stops putting out solo albums.
