In Sunday’s edition of USA Weekend is a display of more than a dozen individuals (famous and non-famous). Their ages range from 17-60 both male and female. In bold letters a question is egging you on to read more, its inquiry reads: “How Long Will You Live?” Once the article is found in the magazine there are three more individuals pictured. They are all in their 30s. The purpose of this article is to determine your life span through a test developed by a doctor.

Thomas Perls, M.D. developed a test in 1999 composed of 23 questions called “Living to 100”. The questions address lifestyle, family health history and personal medical information. He also developed a test for people younger than 50 and older than 50. From the start men get 86 and women get 89 (women tend to live longer) based on the answers of the individual a year is added or subtracted. Although, this test cannot predict your future it provides some first steps to expand your life expectancy. The website also gives you suggestions to add a few years. For example, flossing your teeth daily may add up to four years.

My expectancy is 80. I’ll have to see if I can prove this test “wrong”.
