Google has made some changes to their homepage, www.google.com/ig in the last few hours. I’m not sure yet if this has cached across the whole world, but here on the east coast of America it has. The Google Homepage allows users to login with their Google account (formally only known as a Gmail account) and fill the page with widgets for weather reports, stock tickers, images from Flickr, and what I use it for, RSS feeds. The ability to easily add feeds from websites makes keeping up to date on them much easier. Tonight, Google has improved upon the Homepage experience even more.

On the right side of the feed article, Google has added a timestamp (date if the item was not posted today). The left side gets a familiar looking + icon. Clicking the + icon gives a brief description of what the link contains. RSS feeds enable me to stay connected to the sites I enjoy reading, this preview lets me decide prior to actually clicking the link if I need to read it now or later, saving time from reading articles that may have misleading titles.

Below is a screenshot of the Randomn3ss RSS feed in the Google Homepage, as it is normally.

Here is a shot with the + icon clicked showing the expanded view.

If you haven’t looked into the Google Homepage, are new to RSS feeds or want something a little different for a homepage, check into the Google Homepage. Don’t forget to subscribe to the Randomn3ss RSS feed; you can add us to the Google Homepage in as little as 3 clicks.

Edit 1.23.2007: After a full day of use, the + symbols are a bit straining on my eyes and I’m starting to wish Google would give an option to use or not use this new feature.
