Do You Download Music?
Simple question, there could be a million answers but choose the one that best fits.
I bought my first real CD in probably 5+ years back in February, it felt good because I was supporting an independent artist and the album design was done by someone whom I admire, but outside of that, it still got ripped to MP3 format and loaded to my iPod. The original CD I think was played twice, once to rip and once because it just happened to be in the CD player.
Back in 1999 when I first got high speed internet I downloaded everything I could find, over the next 6 months I found myself with around 1000 burned CDs floating around my house and car. Today, I rarely download anything, mostly because I don’t like entire albums and I’m sure as hell not paying $15 for something where I only want a song or two. In all honesty, I listen to internet radio when I’m home more then the iPod.
The question still remains though, do you download? The deeper question, why? Money, to stick it to the man, because you can, because you are not supposed to? If you do legally download, do you get full albums or just select songs you really want? If you don’t, is it because you truly support the artist, or because you are afraid of going to jail?

its a lot easier to download it!!! i don’t have to waste gas going to the store to pick it up, that’s even if the freaking store carries it! and if i don’t like it, i don’t feel bad because i didn’t spend money on it.

I’ve got nearly 5,000 CD’s, countless amounts of vinyl….nowadays, I buy an average of about 10 CD’s a year…and overwhelming majority of music these days isn’t worth the $12-$18 for the CD…
Like Tom Petty said, “…all the boys upstairs wanna see/how much you’ll pay for what you used to get for free…”

For me, it depends.
I mostly download stuff I already have somewhere, when I can’t find it, or older music which, often times, the artist if not even alive anymore.
If it’s something that is super popular and all over the radio, then I don’t feel about downloading, ’cause they’re already making tons of money anyway.
If it’s something independant, that I really feel is good, I will pay for it, no question, I still buy albums.

This coming from the guy who just gave away FIVE OiNK accounts?
I download quite a bit but a lot being pre-release. I also end up buying anything completely random and local that I know I can’t find online.
I’ve heard mixed thoughts on this but no matter what if I really like an artist I will buy a ticket to go see them live. I don’t buy t-shirts or much merch anymore but I will go see a good artist everytime they come to LA. This is better for small club shows but even still I feel this possibly gives a little more money to the artist than a CD which goes to the record label.
