Digg taking on MySpace?
Kevin Rose, founder of Digg.com, is perhaps taking on one of the largest internet juggernauts in social networking, MySpace. From DuggSpace.com:
Many of us on digg.com think MySpace is a blight on the face of the internet. It’s no better than Geocities was 7 years ago. At the very least, it could be done better, and probably much more quickly, at little to no out of pocket expense. I really think it’s ridiculous that Facebook has turned down offers in excess of $1b.
I proposed we build a team of Diggers to create a social network to rival both sites, using freely available collaboration tools and open source web application infrastructure (Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP). We’ll run the whole thing like a democracy, developers getting equal shares in the profitability of the project, and users/beta testers can vote on features.
Seeing as Kevin started Digg with an idea and $200.00, anything is possible. The forums for DuggSpace are currently down, but you can contact them via email if you are interested in becoming part of the team at duggspace@gmail.com.
