A hoax inside the Topps company’s design department has started up a craze in baseball card collecting, something that hasn’t happened like this in years. The card depicts George W. Bush waving in the crowd with his right hand, his left hand is missing for unknown reasons, and Mickey Mantle is in the dugout with a baseball bat while Jeter swings at the plate.

We saw the card and we thought it was hilarious,” Luraschi said in a telephone interview from the company’s New York headquarters. “We assumed everyone would get a kick out of it like we did, and that’s how it’s been so far.

The card, which would normally fetch only a few dollars in the collectors market, is now going as high as $200 on eBay. To see how popular this card is, check out all the current auctions here.
