Hu Jintao, communist leader of China, has vowed to “purify” the Internet. Chinese Internet users grew by 26 million last year and now just over 10% of the entire population uses the Internet on a regular basis.

Jintao’s goal is to

Maintain the initiative in opinion on the Internet and raise the level of guidance online

And goes on to say

We must promote civilized running and use of the Internet and purify the Internet environment

In the communistic world of China, they have been controlling the media for what seems like ever, and this is yet another attempt to grasp hold of what wants to be free. As long as leaders like this are alive and trying to push their beliefs on people, we will not truly have a free world wide web to share thoughts, ideas and expressions.
