One hundred pushups, falling behind

Over the Labor Day weekend my attempts at one hundred pushups got put on the shelf temporarily.  Life got in the way, along with the longest bicycle ride I’ve done to date, 54.58 miles.  So far this week I’ve also been riding nearly non-stop, racking up 47 miles from Monday morning through my morning commute to work and still have to pedal just over 7 miles home and then another 10ish miles roundtrip to run some errands.

I’m not purposively making excuses as to why I haven’t done them, but I will be revisiting Week 2 Day 2 in the next day or two and then progress on from there.  My goals are still to finish it, however cycling and other aspects of my life have left my body and mind a bit cluttered and exhausted as of late.  Thanks for the continuing support from everyone and please keep replying with how you are doing.

One hundred pushups – Week 2 Day 2

Last night was Week 2 Day 2 of the one hundred pushups.

16 / 13 / 11 / 11 / 20 max

While my max is improving, I still really don’t like doing pushups.

One hundred pushups – Week 2 Day 1

Last night was Week 2 Day 1 of the one hundred pushups.  I put them off from Monday night because I was a bit sore from playing tennis and in no mood to do them.

12 / 12 / 9 / 7 / 18 max

Also realized I forgot to do an exhaustion test over the weekend to see what my new max is.  5 weeks to go and I’m really not a fan of pushups.

One hundred pushups – Week 1 Day 3

Tonight was Week 1 Day 3 of the one hundred pushups. I had every intention of doing these Monday, Wednesday and Friday but somewhat forgot, put them off last night. Still wasn’t in the mood to do them today after a 19.5 mile ride but did it anyway.

15 / 13 / 10 / 10 / 18 max

One week down, five more to go!

Really impressed with the amount of people who are doing this, so please keep leaving comments in the articles as you progress.

One hundred pushups – Week 1 Day 2

Last night was Week 1 Day 2 of the one hundred pushups.  Again, I was in no mood to them and pretty tired, but made myself start.

12 / 12 / 10 / 10 / 15 max

After the second set I felt a bit more awake and the rest felt pretty good.

One hundred pushups – Week 1 Day 1

Last night started Week 1 of my goal to do one hundred consecutive pushups. The sets and reps went as follows:

10 / 10 / 8 / 6 / 10 max

I had intentions to do them after work, before going out but totally forgot.  So at 11:45 last night I was on the floor cranking them out.  My hand started to hurt on the 4th set and through the max set (from a bicycle accident a few weeks ago), so maybe one or two more could have come from the max set if it wasn’t bothering me.  I did try doing knuckle pushups as suggested by a friend to alleviate pain but didn’t find them very comfortable.

This should be a really interesting next six weeks.

One hundred pushups

hundo.pngToday starts the first in six weeks of training to do one hundred pushups consecutively.  I am doing this with the guidelines and training methods from hundredpushups.com, a site I’ve heard about for sometime but finally decided to stop reading and start doing.

Why do it?  Why not?  More than a year and a half ago I made My list of happiness which included getting into better shape.  I’ve picked up road bicycling and am currently training to ride 45 miles in September for the MS society, so why not throw this into the routine to build some core muscles.  It costs nothing and will take less than 15 minutes a day to do.

The six weeks of training requires doing pushups 3 times a week, I will be doing Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, as suggested, in the evenings after work.  In order to start properly, you must first do an initial test, cranking out as many pushups as you can I did 14.  Not terrible, but not great.  I will be plotting my progress (hopefully) on here daily as I progress.  Anyone want to joint me?
