I follow a pretty basic philosophy regarding kitchen tools, buy high quality items that will last a lifetime and serve more than one purpose.  I’ve managed to get by on an above average set of pots and pans and a few other items in my kitchen.  When I have a little spare money, I add to the collection.  Last week, my kitchen tools was expanded by a very unlikely new addition, the Blender Bottle.

After buying multi-vitamins for nearly a year at my local GNC, I’ve become familiar with the gadgets and pills they keep on their counter for quick add-on sales, as well as one of the sales guys who has always been very nice and helping with any questions I’ve had for him.  Most of my weight loss goals have been met and my diet has changed quiet a bit to help me accomplish it, but now my goals have changed slightly and I realized the need to introduce a protein supplement.  After looking at my choices, I picked a powder and paid for it, headed home, let Bella out for a quick walk and then went to the gym, intending to mix a shake up when I got home.

The mix I got tastes pretty good, but mixing it sucked.  Using a spoon, then a fork in a glass still left clumps in the mixture that weren’t very tasteful and I thought it would be just silly to get the blender out to mix 8 ounces of water and a scoop of powder.  Then I remembered seeing the Blender Bottle on the counter at GNC, where I’ve always seen them, one of the only products that never seems to get cycled through.  The next day after work I’d pick one up and give it a try.

It’s an interesting concept, the ball inside is meant to act as a whisk, the bottle has measurements on the side so you know how much water / milk / fluid you are putting in and it’s made really well.  That night after the gym I again made a shake, this time in the new Blender Bottle, adding 8oz of cold filtered water and 1 scoup of powder.  Shook the bottle for about a minute, no leaks, good start.  Set it down to reply to some emails, forgot about it for 5 minutes, gave it a quick shake and then consumed.  Perfect, virtually no lumps!

The seal is really good, the flip-top lid works very well and overall, it’s a snap to clean up.  Rinse it, add a dot of soap, fill with water, close the lid, shake, rinse out the soapy water and let it dry on the counter for the next use.  So what else could I use this for?

Saturday mornings for me mean eggs, just a routine for the last few months.  Scrambled, vegetables added and then wrapped in a whole wheat burrito.  Figured what the hell, it’s supposed to act as a whisk, I’ll throw two eggs in here and let’er rip.  Honestly, the fluffiest omelet I’ve made in a long time. Clean-up again was painless.

I don’t eat pancakes or make homemade salad dressings often, but I’ve read that this bottle is good for that as well.  For $7, I consider it a decent investment since I use it daily and it’s showing no signs of wear after two weeks of use.
