Nearly everyone has a pile of loose change, it could live in the ashtray of your car, an empty water bottle in your home or in the cushions of your favorite couch. In any event, change seems to have lost its value to most Americans, until it converts to bills. We all also have dreaded memories of hand rolling change in paper to take the bank, hoping they would indeed take it. A few years ago, Coinstar launched in several major cities, but with them taking 9% of your money for simply counting your loose change, I never did it.

There is now a website that is updated on a regular basis all the free and low cost places you can take your loose change and get bills. The site isn’t the prettiest, it has a lot of room for improvement, but it does work. Click on the stat you live in, you will be shown a text list of counties and the places that do it by county. I’ve found that the search function (ctrl + F for windows or command + f for Macs) is the easiest way to find your county or city.
